El Nido Palawan Philippines, Paradise on Earth!

Greetings everyone!!

I am so happy to share with you our El Nido, Palawan Philippines experience!

Our journey started from San Rafael Palawan  we arranged our pick up thru our hotel in El nido "The Organic Spa, Bed and Breakfast", although the journey  was already an hour and a half  away from Palawan International Airport  we were still  charged  the same amount  just like anybody else, each of us paid P500 to the hotel.  We didn't mind it as there's no better way to  continue our journey to El nido with out getting stranded  in the middle of the highway  just because there were few  or I should say almost impossible to have an empty van traveling along the road from the city, vans were full and very limited, should say that I am very happy that we plan ahead. It took about 4.5 hours drive to reach El Nido town proper or  it could be less just because we had to stop 2 times due to unavoidable nature call of one of the family member traveling with us,  2nd stop  was to eat lunch which took about an hour including the waiting time.

El Nido has so much to offer I recommend to stay in town for few days so you can try all the tours and enjoy some relaxing moments in the beach front.

El Nido Island hoping Tours

Tour A
- Small Lagoon
- Big Lagoon
- Secret Lagoon
- Shimizu Island
- 7 commando Beach

Tour B
- Snake Island
- Pinagbuyutan Island
- Entalula Beach
- Cudugnon Cave
- Snorkeling Site

Tour C
- Helicopter Island
- Matinloc Shrine
- Secret Beach
- Star Beach
- Hidden Beach

Tour D
 - Ipil Beach
- Cadlao Lagoon
- Paradise Beach
- Pasadigan Beach
- Natnat Beach
- Bukal Beach

There are travel  websites that offers combo tour for this you may want to visit the link right here  the link is not related to my page in any form be careful when giving away your details. I strongly recommend to arrange your ride ahead of time to avoid inconvenience.

Private boat
Island hoping Tours normally leave as early as 7am or 8 am depending on your arrangement, it can be arrange if you're hiring a boat and you want to start your day ahead of the crowd. Speaking of renting a boat do not forget that  entrance fee is not included in the rent  you are just paying for the boat and the boatman I guess, you have to pay at least P100 per hear  per island that  you visit.

Joiner
I didn't know what joiner means until I became one of them, joiner means that you will be  joining the rest of the people booked that Tour on the same day as yours, in this kind of tours your assigned boat can be as crowded as a jam pack boat of 16 people +  the boat captain and 2 guide.  Joined tour will help you save money however since you are with a crowd your island hopping will tend to be a little fast faced  almost like you just spend 25 mins in one area including the waiting time to enter & exit  the Secret Lagoon as my best example.

We regret that we didn't stayed longer in El Nido 2 nights is just not enough, I recommend staying longer so you can explore more. Our trip was just a stop over  we  continue our journey  to Coron on our 3rd day.

Please leave your questions  about our Tour in El Nido in the comment box below and I am more than happy to answer them for you.

What to expect in Astoria Palawan

Expectation vs reality, let me start this blog by saying that there are no direct flights from Singapore to Palawan, you will have to have a stopover in Manila and get a connecting flight to Puerto Princesa. You my want to check Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific for their flight schedules to Palawan.

From Palawan International Airport you have two options to get to Astoria:

Option 1. Van – there are few vans waiting for you outside the arrival area of Puerto Princesa Airport, just be careful with dealing with fixers and make sure you get a good bargain. Based in our own experienced people were nice and helpful that’s why we pick this option. during the time of our visit a van ride cost per head was P300.00, the driver is polite and helpful and will drive you all the way inside the Hotel’s property and will help you with your bags. Side note  just don't forget to tell your manong driver  to drop you in San Rafael Astoria to avoid confusion and to save travel time because aside from Astoria resort there's another Astoria in the city.

Option 2. Bus – for you to take the bus you need to hop on a tricycle and tell “manong” to bring you to San Jose or bus terminal going to San Rafael.

The  TRAVEL It will take about an hour and a half drive on a zigzag road, so if you are not into this kind of drive I suggest to take a motion sickness pills, in our case we didn’t do that and lucky enough to reached the hotel without any incidents of sickness.
YOUR ROOM Astoria hotel has a mini kitchen in their bedroom suite complete with rice cooker, mini-oven, microwave, kettle and cutlery they also provide pots if you want to cook your own meal.
Although you can find few sari-sari store outside the hotel premises fresh seafood and lives stocks are not available, we ended up eating process foods like sausages, meatloaf, corn beef etc., although we manage to find from vegetable and fruits, the white squash (upo) that we bought was already rotten and almost nothing left to cook. We got some freshly harvested sweet potato shoots or talbos ng kamote for only P5.00

OTHER FACILITIES Hotel also provide free use of dryer which you can find in the 1st level of the main building, well don't expect too much because you mind end up dissapointed this is just a normal dyer tub that is a bit old  and has a terrible sound once you start spinning, don't worry you'll get use to it.

There are Karaoke room, game room and gym in case you feel like bored,  booked ahead of time if you want to use the facilities. There's an outdoor mini golf near the entrance to the premise of the hotel and oh there's a boat on top of the tree? tree house? hahaha a tree house in a shape of boat yes that's it. lol

The resort also has it own water park just walking distance from the hotel, guest can enter the water park on discounted fees like P350 for head for adult member and P650 for non-member.

Why I never mentioned the beach? go and watch my vlog and you'll know why.  LINK here

I hope that with this article I am able to help you in my small way.

Thank you for stopping by my page, please don't forget to leave your comments or suggestion to help me improve my writing.

May 20,  2017

Today I woke up as early as six in the morning this is my normal wake up time whenever I'm on a vacation. Now I know you will ask me why, here's a thing you supposed wake up late because its vacation,  my answer is very simple , you have got to seize the day my friend you are on a vacation doesn't mean you will sleep all day. This is your chance to get up early and watch the sun rise (which I always failed)  and explore the place.  Now let's explore Astoria Palawan.

My Astoria Palawan Travel guide 2017

So, I've been talking about Astoria in my previous vlogs that is because me & my husband availed of their membership when we were in Boracay last year  2016.

The club is called  Astoria Vacation and Leisure Club Inc. (AVLCI) and with that we got a complimentary 3 days vacation in Southeast Asia & another 3 days 2 nights  in Astoria Palawan, these complimentary stay has a validity of 6 months, and since we cannot claim it during public holidays and we have prior plans in the 3rd quarter of this year 2017, we went ahead and booked our 3 days 2 nights stay in Astoria Palawan last May 19-21, 2017 originally our plan was to stay in Astoria after our tour in Coron & El nido, it would be nice to chill in this hotel  if our plan was followed, unfortunately the hotel was fully booked and we had to reversse our plan, our itinerary was  from Singapore to Manila to visit my Nanay & Tatay, then head to Puerto Princesa Palawan to stay in Astoria, and then El nido to Coron which I'm going to blog next time.

Ahsoon's photo taken in  the New Airport of Puerto Princesa

We arrived in the newly constructed airport in Puerto Princesa, from there we choose to ride a van going to Astoria for the P300.00 per head, all the Van are traveling all the way to El nido and Astoria is just about 1hr & 30 mins ride from the Airport, another way to reach this hotel is taking a tricycle from the Airport, then tell the driver to drop you off to the bus terminal in the city and take the bus going to San Rafael, this option is best because it is cheaper & go can buy some raw food that you can cook during your stay in the hotel.

Remember which Astoria your are heading to as there's another Astoria located in the city.

We arrived in the hotel past the hour of 3 in the afternoon and it was extremely humid, check-in was smooth the staff were courteous not to mentioned good looking front desk people, everybody makes you feel welcome.

The Canopy  or front desk

We were greeted by the hotel staff with a necklace souvenir  & a cold towel  plus a welcome drink of coconut shake with some bite size kakanin, awesome!

kakanin: pampawi ng gutom

Welcome drink: Coconut shake

Rico was assigned to guid us to our room,  1 bedroom suite non-smoking located in the 2nd level of the main building,  Rico was very friendly and courteous.

Now let's jump into the room tour!!

Here's our Mini-kitchen where we cooked our meal for the entire stay-cation, almost like your own kitchen complete with stove, rice cooker , microwave , kettle and even toaster how cool is that?

our room's mini-kitchen

of course you gotta have the fridge, in a normal hotel you can only  have a mini-fridge, in Astoria you got two-doors fridge how awesome is that! this is perfect if we were able to stop by the public market in the city well unfortunately we skipped that part and we end up eating process foods, yikes!

With bottle water , tea, coffee, sugar & creamer compliments replenish daily

Good quality cutlery

Moving on to the very spacious and neat toilet & shower room.

Your choice of shower

Sink is simple yet elegant

Toiletries brand name is Naturals supplied by ADA Cosmetic International from Germany, not the usual all in one shampoo & conditioner that you normally find in hotels.  I fell in love  with the the bath soap and their  lotion it smells really nice  like  you just came out of a spa. LOOVE it!!💖

Instantly this became my favourite soap
Nice & clean toilet

Neat!

Now here one of my favourite tools inside the room, I didn't know that hotels provide this  and I don't even know what it is called, pardon my ignorance hahaha 👀

This tool is very useful when tidying  your things without bending or messing the floor and  this avoid the luggage to have (more) scratches  as well, Thumbs up!

Let me go ahead and show you the dining area.

The wall design and furnitures colour combined together made the whole room looks beautiful and relaxing

Ahsoon really enjoyed his stay

got to have this pose 😅😅

Queen size bed

Now Lets proceed to the 2nd room we called it "The Green room" it has 2  Queen size bed with TV in front inside this room they also provide a kettle & a microwave and the usual complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee and creamer.

This  room also has its own closet  and own hotel supplies complete with slippers and even a laundry bag

And guess what makes us more happier? there's a bathtub! yay! 👏👏👏💞

Yah gotta try the tub right away!
There is an ongoing construction in front of the beach makes it not swimmable

what a lovely sunset

TIPs: 1. From Airport take the tricycle and visit the public market to buy your produce  if you plan to cook  during your stay  buy those essentials like water, cooking oil, rice, bread and even the dish washing liquid and sponge, although  there are few trading stores located just opposite the hotel, the price will not be as cheap as the one you can get from the public market and the selections are limited to process foods and all pack goods,  oh well hotel offers ala-carte meal in case you want to skip cooking.

2. After buying all the things that you need,  take bus to Astoria San Rafael  it will be cheaper than taking a van, even more cheaper from the Hotels Airport transfer of P2800 one way per van.

3. Bring mosquito repellent and apply it all over your exposed skin, there are a lot of  sand fleas  and other insects especially at the beach area.

4. Hotel will provide WIFI access within the resort premises, connection is very decent  I was able to upload photon on Facebook during our stay,  Each WiFi ticket is good for  2 devices which is valid during during your stay.

5. Pets are not allowed inside the resort.

This is just our day one and  I can't wait to share with you the rest of our Astoria Palawan photos. The best time to enjoy your stay in Astoria is when you have nothing to do but to chill & enjoy your room and the pool.

Watch out for the 2nd part of this blog coming really soon!

Leave you comment or question below and I will try my best to answer them right away.
