Christmas in a Filipino Family

Christmas is just around the corner and who's not excited for it? That's why I created this blog just in time for this Wonderful time of the Year

I grew up in a Filipino family of 10, yes! you read it right proud to say that I came from a big family. I have 5 brothers and 4 sister, who doesn't love that?  We loved Christmas like no others ,  we have few traditions as family that we try to religiously observed and now we are slowly but surely  training our nephews and nieces so they can continue what we practice.

In this season of Happiness let us not forget the reason of this Wonderful Celebration, Lord God sent His Son Jesus  into the world to be born, and His birth brought great JOY  to the world.

Its doesn't matter if we didn't have enough money to buy presents, most important thing is we celebrate with family and friends by sharing good food and memories that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

This picture was taken wayback in 2014 when I went home to Philippines to celebrate Christmas with my family. This is one of the many reasons why I kept coming back home, I missed them everyday.

I can still remember how we celebrated Christmas during my childhood days, we didn't have much but we were so happy, our Tatay will order bunch of loaf breads which only happens during this season. Yearly he would reserve 12 big packs of loaf bread, we called it tasty bread, and then we will have  Filipino Pancit canton or  Pancit bihon, we got couple of canned foods given by our family Doctor.

As the years goes by and we're all started to grow up  a little bit, Tatay still kept his tradition of 12 big Tasty Loaf every Christmas.  Our table still has his favorite chicken & pork adobo upto this time. (image courtesy of kawaling pinoy) and our nanay's all time favorite Bopis (image courtesy of Filipinofoodsandrecipe.com)

Nanay's big tub of Mayonaise and sandwich spread on Christmas eve made us feel so blessed and joyful not to forget her Hot Chocolate a must have in our family .

We got our Christmas Tree up as well,  we used  dry branch of tree and then we wrap each stem with cotton and we put garlands on it and balls, we didn't have Christmas lights because we didn't have electricity yet, up until I reached my secondary school.

The Christmas Tree shown above was our Nanay's creation.  We also got out "Parol" or homemade lanterns, which was made by Nanay every single year until the plastic lanterns came out and we run out of  a bamboo plants. (parol image courtesy of http://www.bayanihancc.org)

As we grow up me and my siblings  had so much tiny little dreams in our head that started to build up  but it was too difficult to achieve during our younger days due to finances. We dreamed of having a nice Plastic Christmas tree just like the ones in the mall.

I still remember  one of our dream was to have the traditional Lechon on our Christmas Table, oh yeah  it's funny specially to those of you that can afford 1 or even more Lechon. Oh well,  Lord God is good and He will help you as long as you help your self to get that dream come true,  as long as you put your heart in it and work hard.

There is just so much to share, good memories of  old times, maybe I will do another blog on that. I hope that you guys enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed myself writing this blog.

What are your family Christmas Tradition that you still observed up to these days? comment down below so I can read them back . Thank you so much!
